A very special lady and dear friend had her 80^th birthday recently – Carol who writes the CD Sunday Challenge posts and makes sure the DT members stay on track!

Sadly I had Covid so had to wait to make and send her card. She received it a few days after her birthday. Carnation Crafts recently released a new collection of dies and vignettes and I just had to use them to make Carol’s card.

It took quite a bit of measuring and head scratching to get the hearts the right size and in the right place but I got there in the end. The flowers were hand made using a new set of Crafts Too/John Next Door flower dies. I loved how they turned out and finished them off with light pink dew drops in the centres.

Thanks to everyone who joined in with the last challenge. As I was host it’s down to me to pick the Top Three makes.

My last card was made from items I’d found lurking on my desk unused and so is this one!

The pale brown backing paper was printed from a Carnation Crafts Collection and has been over stamped using a Craftascope stamp. The dark brown strip is left over from a crafting session when I was trying to reproduce a bokeh effect using white ink and stamps.

At the time of making this card I’d just bought a new, to me, flower stamp and die set and just had to use it on this card! It’s stamped onto white vellum using Versamark ink and gold embossing powder. I then coloured the back of the vellum with brown ink so it would fit in with the colour scheme of the card. I added some gold and brown half pearls to finish off the card.

#91 Anything Goes - CD Sunday Plus Challenge

I’m hosting the challenge this fortnight and this card came about after a tidy up of my desk LOL! I’d printed off a couple of designs from a USB but hadn’t used them all. This one is far too pretty to be left lurking on my desk! It had been printed onto Pro Print paper which really makes the colours stand out. 

I then printed out two pink papers from another USB to cut the ringlet dies out off. I thought the two shades of pink were the perfect match for the pinks in the background paper. From what was left I made the three flowers using a cut and emboss folder and the sentiment.

The card is finished off with Tonic Nuvo Drops which was almost a disaster! The colour I first used was translucent and too orange, so I went over the top with another colour and held my breath until they were dry – thankfully they turned out OK!

#74 Anything Goes - CD Sunday Plus Challenge

I don’t know if you’ve heard of Becca Feeken but she’s a Spellbinders designer and I’ve followed her blog, Amazing Paper Grace, for many, many years. She designs the most beautiful dies and her cards are always stunning. So when Create and Craft had some of her new range recently I just had to buy a couple of sets. For this card I used Birthday Wishes Vignette S5-455. 

I covered the card blank with paper from a Paper Pantry USB. This is a stunning range of papers and was originally a paper pack but Creative Crafting World are now bringing out their paper pack designs on USBs. Which is great news as I’ve used up most of my favourite papers from this set.

I cut the base layer die from peach card from the Paper Pantry collection (paper pack this time) then I cut the next layer from white card and the final pink layer is also from the Paper Pantry collection. I then cut the Birthday Wishes layer three times - once in the same pink card, then a layer of silver mirror card and the top layer from white card. They were layered up so they were very slightly off set - you can just see a little of each layer. This top layer was attached to the card with 3d foam to give a little height.

 

The flowers were handmade using the same peach and pink card. They were cut using a cut and emboss folder, I only used two layers for the flowers as the third layer was too big for the space on the card. I love these folders and can’t stop making flowers with them! I used a glue pen along the embossed veins and sprinkled DecoArt Glamour Dust over them and then glued a silver gem in the middle of each flower. I love how they sparkle and it seems to make the silver layer of the Birthday Wishes stand out more. The foliage is cut using Anna Marie Designs Dottie Sprigs dies which I’ve chopped up to fit around the flowers. And a few half silver pearls.

#71 Anything Goes - CD Sunday Plus Challenge

  

It’s my turn to host the CD Sunday Plus Challenge for the next two weeks. I’ll be visiting the blogs of everyone entering to pick my Top Three choice which will be announced on Sunday 7^th November.

I’ve seen a lot of ‘wreath’ style cards recently and decided to have a go at making one. They’re usually made with circle dies but I used stitched hexagon ones as I liked the shape. This card was for my late husband’s only surviving aunty and her husband. It was their 67^th wedding anniversary and she loves the colour purple.

  

The base is covered with a paper from a collection called Lavender Fields. We always say that it doesn’t matter how small the ‘digital’ item is it still qualifies to enter the challenge - and this proves the point!
Using two different sized dies I made a frame and cut two of them. Acetate is glued to the front of the card with one frame covering the join. The second frame is attached to the back to hide the adhesive on the acetate.
I’m obsessed with using Cut and Fold Flower Folders at the moment and they’re kept permanently on my desk. I used purple parchment to cut out the flowers which has turned white from the embossing. I then highlighted parts of it with a glitter marker in Purple Passion. I finished the card off with die cut foliage and white half pearls.

 

 The cards are usually open at the bottom like a top fold card but they then don’t stand up very well and tend to slide open when on display so I made a solid base and put the finished card in a box to post.

On one of the craft forums I belong to we have a birthday card swap. Originally it was set up so we only had one person in each month to make a card for. Sadly the numbers have dropped and we now only have nine people. Three of them are in September and with several family members also having September birthdays I try to get ahead with the cards in August.

This is one of the cards I made for the September birthday swap.

 

The backing paper is from a Paper Pantry USB with several collection on it. This one is called The Walled Garden. It was originally a paper pack but with it now on a USB I don’t have to think about running out of any of the designs.

The dies are by Becca Feeken for Spellbinders, she also has a blog called Amazing Paper Grace which I’ve followed for many years. She designs the most beautiful dies and her cards are always stunning. So when Create and Craft had some of her new range recently I just had to buy a couple. It’s very rare for the UK craft channels to have any of Becca’s dies. 

 

 The flowers are handmade using a very old set of dies by Creative Expressions from 2014. They’re still very useable even though they’re quite old. The dies are in 4 different sizes and I was able to use two sizes that were just the right fit for the card. I placed tiny grey half pearls in the centres of the flowers and large grey pearls on two of the edges of the card.

I’d finished making a card for a future CD Sunday Plus challenge and had some scraps of paper left on my desk. They were heading for the recycling when I changed my mind and made a wedding anniversary card for my next door neighbours with them.

  

 The card blank is a 5 by 7 inch landscape card but I’ve turned it so the fold is at the top (a tent fold). I covered the card blank with backing paper that was a free download from Papercraft Essentials issue 200. You don’t need to buy the magazine to access the downloads – they’re on the Craft World website. I think you need to join the site to access them. 

I had a new set of dies on my desk and they fitted the card blank - result! There are 5 dies in the set but I’ve only used the largest and smallest – for the mat behind the flower. 

 

I made the flower using more of the printed paper and a cut and emboss folder. I like these folders so much they now sit permanently on my desk. Only thing is most of my cards now have flowers on them LOL! 

I finished the card with a sentiment and backing layer cut using the same card and paper. I also added some large half pearls in pink and white.

Fezziwigs Festive Frolics - Let's Get Sentimental

The theme at Fezziwigs Festive Frolics this time is Let’s Get Sentimental. Hazel wants to see sentiments on the front of our Christmas cards. I made a card for the previous theme, which was Flowers, but I didn’t get around to blogging it. Luckily it fits in with the sentiment theme too!

  

I really like how the flowers turned out. I recently bought some Cut and Emboss folders from Chloe’s Creative Cards and this is the first chance I’ve had to try them out.

I finished the card with lots of white pearls.

#51 Anything Goes - CD Sunday Plus Challenge

The Top Three for the challenge I hosted, 22nd November to 5^th December, has been announced over on the CD Sunday Challenge Blog. Thanks to everyone who entered, it was great seeing so many entries and some from new people too.

The theme for the current challenge is Anything Goes. You must have used something printed from a CD, a USB or a digital download, you must state where the item used is from and a physical item must be made not a digital one.

After watching a Facebook live from Carnation Crafts I decided to have a go at making a triple easel card. I’m loving using the Carnation Crafts flower dies and downloadable vignettes – they make the card look amazing.

For the central easel I used the Carnation Crafts A Little Bit Fancy Card Shape. I cut the back layer from green card by The Paper Boutique’s It’s A Dog’s Life. The detailed layer was cut from the downloadable vignette. The two side panels are cut using a Tonic Studios die from the Swirling Frame Layering Die Set.

I then decorated the card using Carnation Crafts flower dies and downloadable vignettes. From left to right they are – Balloon Flower, Night-scented Stock, Peony, Agapanthus and finishing on the right sided easel - Balloon Flower. Some of the die cuts were snipped into and pieces slipped in to fill gaps.

  

The heart shaped stoppers are cut using Tattered Lace Heart dies. The green card as before and the purple is Paper Boutique again but this time from The Walled Garden set. Finally the sentiment and backing layer were cut using The Paper Boutique Happy Anniversary Doily Die set.

I made the card for my next door neighbours. They sent me a text saying ‘Wow!! You have out done yourself on this one. It’s amazing, we love it and are touched that you remembered our wedding anniversary’. They’ve been a great support to me, and my late husband during his illness, and since he’s passed away.

I belong to a craft forum and we have regular card swaps using a theme. The latest one was ‘Use green, pink and white’. I’d just had a new die collection from Carnation Crafts delivered and had printed out the downloadable vignettes ready to make a card and luckily the colours I’d chosen fitted this theme.

 

I used an A5 card blank and cut a mat from the A Little Bit Fancy Perfect Papers - it’s actually 300gsm card. I then cut out the card shape die from the collection using the vignette in pale green. I used it as a sort of trellis rather than the card base. I then cut out several of the Balloon Flowers and snipped into some of the die cuts to make a fuller flower arrangement which I also layered up.

#45 Anything Goes - CD Sunday Plus Challenge

I needed to make a birthday card for one of my niece’s and it was the perfect ‘excuse’ to use some new dies from Carnation Crafts. They’re a company that has downloadable ‘vignettes’ to use with the dies. Some are free from their website but you can buy other colour ways as well. As this was the first time I’d made a card with their products I opted for the free colourway.

The yellow background card was run through an embossing folder before being attached to the base card. I then used the Sunny dies from the Summer Daze Collection and a Happy Birthday die from Creative Crafting World. I finished off with some gems from my stash.

Golden Wedding Bookatrix

One of my brothers and his wife recently had their Golden Wedding anniversary. I decided to make a Bookatrix card – do you remember these when the Glitter Girls were on TV? I still have the Bookatrix board but didn’t want to cut it out by hand. I found an SVG file online and used it to cut my 3 layers on the Scan N Cut.

I used kraft card for 2 of the layers and gold mirror card for the middle layer. I edged all the layers with peel offs that I’ve had for many years! I was emailed a black and white wedding photo and wanted to use it on the card. I die cut it using a set of dies from The Works and also cut a bigger layer from the same gold mirror card. I fixed this to one side of the card and to the other I added another mat. I then cut the number 50 and the Happy Anniversary from plain card. I inked them with Versamark and used embossing powder to add colour and a metallic finish to them. The Happy Anniversary is by The Paper Boutique from one of their early releases and the numbers are Carnival Numbers by Docrafts/XCut.

                                    

I then made the flowers using vellum, Stamps by Chloe (from Issue 3 of her box magazine) and Royal Gold Satin Pearl embossing powder – the same that was used on the numbers and sentiment. Actually it’s called Thermographic Powder which is the same as embossing powder. It was part of a prize from Alan and Barry when they had a forum. The forum is still going strong although it’s not called Alan and Barry anymore and it’s a closed forum so doesn’t take any more new members.

I added some flourishes cut from vellum using a Cheery Lynn Fanciful Flourish die.

It’s not in the photo but I also cut a stand for the card using a Card Making Magic Christina Griffiths Easel Card Stand.

My sister-in-law phoned me to say it had arrived safely and how much they both liked it. She sometimes makes cards so knows the work that goes into making one.
